Poetry: the Moment

By Monica C. Voskamp

The moment she stopped running

Running from the storm

Running from the beast

Inside her soul.

The moment she stopped

Struggling with the dark

Struggling with the chaos

The moment she stopped

And finally let the nightmare come.

She let the fear fill her lungs.

She let the regrets hit her hard.

She let the hurtful reality be with her.

It was that moment she said to herself

It is okay to stop.

It is okay to be here.

It is okay to be terrified

In the thick of the storm.

The moment she stopped

She found what she had been

Desperately looking for.

All along the truth was here

All along the truth was not lost.

The truth was just muffled in

The roar of her run.
