Poetry: Unprecedented Times

By Monica C. Voskamp

Can you give me a bed an ocean size?

I need a place to rest these tears.

Can you stretch the arms of heaven wide?

I need a power to hold me up.

It was light and then it was dark

I saw a flicker of hope and then

It quickly faded away.

I feel resolve, then uncertainty

These are unprecedented times

Brave choices conflicting anxiety.

I don’t know who else

Is trying to smile while

Pouring out inner pain.

I don’t know who else

Is trying to be brave while

Pounding heartbeats afraid.

But I can only imagine so many

Are pooling beds of ocean tears

While praying for an angel’s hug.

I can only imagine so many

Are whispering prayers of hope

And welcoming peaceful thoughts.

These are unprecedented times it’s true

But the one thing you should know

I’m not giving up and neither are you.
