Poetry: The Monster & Me

By Monica C. Voskamp

The pain will come back you know.

The monster doesn’t leave just like that.

It will come back.

And I hope when it does

You look it in the eye

Acknowledge the immense monster it is

And cry.

Cry because of it’s magnitude

Cry because it doesn’t know how

To deal with the size of itself.

The monster is your wound

Your wound to tend

Not to burry, deny or carry.

Tend your wound

Be kind to all that pain

And watch that monster

Grow quiet

Then change.

It will change into a beautiful force,

A force that will no longer undo you

But a force that will move mountains

For you.

Be kind to your monster.

Welcome the pain,

It may very well be

Your greatest gain.

Always hope. Always believe. Always love.  💕
